Two English boys played with a wooden club and a ball in the dense woodlands of the Weald. One held the ‘bat’ while the other threw the ball at him. Ofcourse, they enjoyed the game. Participa un total de 19 selecciones y la que ha cosechado más triunfos es la de Australia, que ha sido campeona en 1987, 1999, 2003 y 2007. En segundo lugar se encuentra un combinado de selecciones del Caribe, que ha ganado el título dos veces, en 1975 y en 1979. También han ganado la copa las selecciones de Pakistán, Sri Lanka e India. Por su parte la selección de Inglaterra ha sido 3 veces subcampeón. Es el 4º mayor evento deportivo del mundo tras la Copa mundial de fútbol, los JJOO de verano y la copa mundial de rugby, por número demedios audiovisuales que concentra y por el número de espectadores (2.200 millones en 2007).
